You’ve planned the wedding. You’ve lived the ceremony. Now you’re here — on the most romantic island in the world, with no agenda, no photographer’s shot list, no family photos to coordinate — just the two of you and however many days you’ve got to simply be married.
And somewhere in those days, something real happens. The way you hold hands without thinking about it. The laughing fit at breakfast that you’ll reference for the next thirty years. The moment at cliff’s edge when you look at each other and realize — wordlessly — that this is exactly what you wanted.
This guide is about one specific question: how do you capture all of it professionally, beautifully, and without it feeling like work? I’m Wayan Parmana, and I’ve spent 13 years as a Bali honeymoon photographer. Everything I know is on this page.
For planning the trip itself — the areas, the itinerary, the best resorts — that’s our complete Bali honeymoon guide. This guide is the companion piece.
Wedding vs Honeymoon — Why They’re Completely Different.
Most couples arrive in Bali having already experienced wedding photography. A honeymoon session is nothing like that.
Understanding the difference makes you a much better client for it:
| Wedding Photography | Honeymoon Photography |
|---|---|
| Full day, tight timeline | 2–6 hours, relaxed pace |
| Shot list, family groups, formal portraits | No shot list — just prompted candid moments |
| Wedding dress and formal attire | Flowy summer dress, casual linen, beach-ready |
| Guests, vendors, logistics | Just you two + photographer |
| High emotional stakes, nervous energy | Relaxed, playful, already comfortable together |
| Documents a single day | Captures who you are after the wedding |
The result? Honeymoon sessions almost always produce the most natural, honest couple portraits of any photography experience. Because the pressure is gone, the performance is gone — and what’s left is just the two of you, comfortable in each other’s company, in one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

Best Photography Locations — With Specific Timing & Angles.
Here’s what I’m going to tell you: exactly where to stand, when to be there, and what the light is doing — from the perspective of someone who has shot there dozens of times.
Four Locations — Four Completely Different Stories
Uluwatu Cliffs
The 4:30 PM Rule
The cliff at Uluwatu is best between 4:30 and 6:15 PM. West-facing, the light comes in at a flattering low angle and turns the limestone walls warm gold. The infinity pools at venues like Alila Villas and AYANA catch the light and create natural reflections behind the couple.
Best angle: Position with backs to the cliff edge, facing the photographer inland — the ocean and sky form a natural backdrop without harsh direct sun in the eyes. For the “looking at the view together” frame, position at the extreme cliff edge with the horizon dead-center and shoot into the sun as a silhouette.
Blue hour (5:50–6:10 PM): Don’t leave at sunset — wait for blue hour. The sky goes deep indigo, resort lights glow warm, and the ocean catches the last light. This 20-minute window produces the most cinematic frames of any location in Bali.
Best Window
4:30–6:15 PM (golden hour + blue hour)
Drone
Permitted with advance venue approval + DGCA-licensed pilot
Outfit
Flowing dress in ivory, blush, or terracotta. Men: linen shirt, open collar, lightweight trousers
Ubud
The 6:00 AM Session
Ubud’s magic lives in the early morning. The jungle wakes slowly, the mist sits low in the valley, and the quality of light between 6:00 and 8:30 AM is the softest, most flattering I’ve encountered anywhere on the island.
Tegalalang Rice Terrace (6:00–8:00 AM): Arrive before 7 AM. The terraces are empty, the light is directional from the east, and the colors are deepest green. By 9 AM, tour groups arrive and the magic dissolves. Photoshoot fee: IDR 500,000.
Private Villa Infinity Pool at Dawn: The 10 minutes after sunrise, when light just grazes the surface of the water — is one of the most extraordinary shooting conditions on the island. No photoshoot fee. No crowd. This is the “floating breakfast” photo done intentionally, with a photographer.
Campuhan Ridge (6:30–7:30 AM): A 2-kilometer ridge walk through open hillside above the Ubud valley. Free, quiet, and visually unlike anything else on the island.
Best Window
6:00–8:30 AM
Tegalalang Fee
IDR 500,000 (photoshoot)
Outfit
Soft flowing fabrics in earth tones — sage, cream, warm beige. Avoid heavy fabrics for the walking locations

The 45 minutes around sunset — where every session finds its best light.
Nusa Penida
The Hidden Drama
Kelingking Beach’s T-Rex cliff and Diamond Beach’s hidden staircase cove are among the most visually dramatic settings I’ve photographed anywhere. A 35-minute fast boat from Sanur — and you need to be at Kelingking by 8:00 AM before the day-tripper crowds build.
Kelingking viewpoint (7:30–9:00 AM): Wide angle works best here — you need the scale. The couple at the cliff edge, the turquoise water 200 meters below, the cliff formation behind them.
Diamond Beach staircase (9:30–11:00 AM): The descent to the beach is steep (200+ steps) and best timed when the sun angles into the cove from the east. Plan for a full day trip — or stay overnight on the island for Crystal Bay sunset too.
Transport
35-min fast boat from Sanur
Arrive By
8:00 AM at Kelingking viewpoint
Outfit
Casual, comfortable, and willing to get slightly wet. Diamond Beach waves can be unpredictable
Sidemen, East Bali
The One Nobody Has Yet
This is the recommendation that separates my work from every generic honeymoon photography guide. Sidemen Valley offers something increasingly rare in Bali: absolute quiet. Rice terraces climbing the eastern slopes of Mount Agung, traditional villages tucked between the paddies, morning mist that doesn’t burn off until 9 AM.
Almost no couples book here for a honeymoon session — which is precisely why the images look unlike anything else in any portfolio. The landscape is pristine, the light is extraordinary, and there is no photoshoot fee, no crowd, no timeline pressure.

What to Wear — For Your Bali Honeymoon Photoshoot.
The fastest way to date your honeymoon photos is to wear something on-trend in 2026. The fastest way to make them timeless is to wear something that looks like the best version of how you actually dress together.
For Her — Movement Creates Magic
Fabric: Linen, chiffon, silk, and soft cotton move beautifully in Bali’s coastal wind. Flowing fabrics become part of the setting.
Color: Ivory, blush, sage, dusty blue, warm terracotta. Avoid pure white against beach or sky — it blows out.
Length: Mid or full-length for cliff and terrace. Shorter, casual for beach and market sessions.
Shoes: Easy-to-remove flats. You will be barefoot on at least two locations.
For Him — Relaxed Sophistication
Linen shirt: Slightly open at the collar — the single most universally flattering choice for tropical couple photography. Sleeves rolled, tucked or untucked.
Trousers or chinos: For most settings. Shorts for beach-specific sessions.
Coordinate: Not costume-match. If she’s in soft ivory, he’s in warm cream or stone linen.
Bring two outfits. For half-day sessions with two locations, an outfit change gives the gallery genuine visual variety. Start with the more formal or flowing option; switch to something casual and relaxed for the second location. The change happens in the car between locations — five minutes, completely transforms the visual register.
How to Hire — A Bali Honeymoon Photographer. Five Things That Actually Matter.
The advice most guides give you: check the portfolio, read the reviews, compare prices. All true — but there are more specific things that determine whether your honeymoon photoshoot succeeds.
1.
Direction Style Matters More Than Aesthetic
A beautiful portfolio tells you what a photographer can produce. How they direct tells you what they’ll produce with you. Ask specifically: how do you direct couples who feel awkward in front of the camera? The answer reveals everything. The approach I use — prompted candid, action-based direction rather than stiff posing — is covered in detail in our engagement photography guide.
2.
Local Bali Knowledge Is Non-Negotiable
A photographer who knows Bali knows the golden hour is 45 minutes shorter here than in Europe. They know Tegalalang is unusable after 9 AM. They know which cliff at Uluwatu catches the last light, and which faces the wrong direction. They have relationships with villa coordinators and venue managers — which means access and timing that a visiting photographer simply can’t replicate.
3.
Ask to See a Full Gallery, Not Just Highlights
Anyone can curate 15 stunning frames. Ask for a complete 2-hour session gallery. Look for consistency, emotional variety, and how they handle different lighting conditions — not just the golden hour hero shots.
4.
Confirm the Deliverables Explicitly
In 2026, professional standards include: sneak peek within 48 hours, full gallery in 2–3 weeks, high-resolution full-size files, and optionally vertical social media reels within 5–7 days. If a photographer’s timeline is “4–6 weeks for everything,” that’s behind the current industry standard.
5.
Chemistry Check — Book a 15-Minute Call
You’ll spend 2–6 hours with this person during some of the most intimate moments of your honeymoon. Spend 15 minutes on a video call before committing. You’ll know immediately whether the energy is right.
Honeymoon Photography Packages — 2026 Updated Pricing.
Here’s what a professional Bali honeymoon photoshoot package looks like in 2026, and what you actually get at each price point:
| Package | Duration | IDR | USD | What’s Included |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Intimate Session | 2 hours, 1 location | From 3,000,000 | $185 | Full edited gallery, 48hr sneak peek |
| Half-Day ✦ most popular | 4–6 hours, 2 locations | 7,500,000–11,000,000 | $460–$680 | Transport, drone, outfit change, social reels |
| Full-Day Adventure | 8–10 hours, 3 locations | 13,500,000–18,000,000 | $830–$1,100 | All half-day + Nusa Penida option + printed USB box |
| Film Add-On | 1 roll 35mm extra | +1,500,000 | +$95 | Analog film, overseas lab, separate delivery 4–6 weeks |
The half-day package gives you two completely different lighting environments — typically a sunrise mountain or rice terrace session + a late afternoon beach or cliff session — within a single day, without exhausting yourselves. For the full breakdown, see our Bali photography pricing page.
What to Expect — On the Day of Your Honeymoon Photoshoot.
Most couples arrive at their first session slightly nervous. They’ll say something like “we’re not very photogenic” — which is almost never true.
What they mean is: we’ve never been photographed with good direction before.
↳
The First 15 Minutes Aren’t About Photos
When I meet you at the location, the camera stays down. We walk, we talk. I find out which one of you is more camera-shy. I learn something I can use as a direction prompt — an inside joke, a habit, the thing you love most about each other. By the time I pick up the camera, the nervous energy has usually dissolved completely.
↳
Direction Without Posing
I don’t tell couples where to put their hands. I give them things to do — whisper something, walk toward that tree, spin her once and pull her back in. The body follows natural movement; the face follows real emotion. The resulting photos look candid because the moments were candid.
↳
Golden Hour Is the Priority
Everything in the session builds toward the light windows. For afternoon sessions, the 45 minutes around sunset is where I push for the hero shots. Everything before that is warming up, finding the connection, relaxing into the space. By the time the light turns gold, you’re comfortable enough that the shots almost take themselves.

The camera stays down for the first fifteen minutes. By the time it comes up, the nerves are gone.
By the time the light turns gold, you’re comfortable enough with each other — and with being seen — that the shots almost take themselves.

Full personal use — print, share, frame
The gallery you receive is high-resolution and fully licensed for personal use. Here’s what I recommend most:
·
Frame 2–3 prints for your home
The living room wall deserves something better than a wedding portrait. A quiet moment from your honeymoon — the two of you at cliff’s edge at blue hour, or laughing on a terrace over breakfast — is the one you’ll look at daily and feel something every time.
·
Order a photo book
Most professional online printers (Artifact Uprising, MILK Books) work with the files directly from your gallery link.
·
Save one image as your “10th anniversary print”
Some couples choose a single frame from their honeymoon session and make a commitment to print and frame it on every milestone anniversary. I find this idea genuinely moving.
·
Social media strategy
The sneak peek images are optimized for Instagram. The vertical reels (if ordered) are edited specifically for Reels and TikTok format — delivered separately within 5–7 days.

Frequently Asked Questions — About Bali Honeymoon Photography.
Q
Is a honeymoon photoshoot in Bali worth it?
In my experience, it’s one of the highest-value decisions couples make in Bali — and one of the most regretted when skipped. The combination of extraordinary natural light, world-class locations, and the emotional openness of being newly married produces the most honest couple photography of any session type I offer. The iPhone photos from your honeymoon will be fine. The professional ones will be the ones you frame.
Q
What is the best time of day for a honeymoon photoshoot in Bali?
It depends on the location. Cliff and beach sessions: 4:30–6:15 PM (golden hour + blue hour). Rice terraces and jungle: 6:00–8:30 AM before heat and crowds build. Waterfall and forest: flexible — natural shade means good light from 8 AM to early afternoon. See our couple photoshoot ideas guide for a full per-location timing table.
Q
How much does a honeymoon photographer cost in Bali?
Professional Bali honeymoon photography starts from IDR 3,000,000 (~$185 USD) for a 2-hour session. The most popular half-day package runs IDR 7,500,000–11,000,000 (~$460–$680) and includes two locations, drone coverage, transport, and vertical social media reels. Full pricing at our packages page.
Q
What’s the best location for a honeymoon photoshoot in Bali?
My answer changes by couple. For drama: Uluwatu cliff at 5 PM. For intimacy: private villa pool at sunrise in Ubud. For adventure: Kelingking cliff on Nusa Penida. For something nobody else has: Sidemen Valley in East Bali at 7 AM. The pre-wedding locations guide covers 27 spots in complete detail.
Q
How do I integrate the photoshoot into our honeymoon itinerary?
Most couples book their shoot for Day 2 or 3 — after the jet lag has resolved and before the full relaxation mode sets in. The most popular format is a sunrise rice terrace session (6–9 AM) combined with a cliff or beach golden hour session later the same day (4:30–6:30 PM), with the afternoon free for lunch and rest. Our Bali honeymoon guide has a full 7-day itinerary to build around.
Q
Can we include drone footage in our honeymoon session?
Yes — drone coverage is included in our half-day and full-day packages, operated by a DGCA-licensed pilot. All operations comply with Indonesia’s DGCA Directive 008/2025 requirements. Most venues in Bali require advance drone approval — we handle all compliance on your behalf.
Q
What if it rains during our honeymoon shoot?
Bali’s rain usually comes in short, intense bursts rather than all-day drizzle — especially during the transition months. If your session falls in the wet season, we build flexibility into the plan: shift to a covered jungle or waterfall location, use villa interiors with editorial lighting, or reschedule to an alternative day if your trip allows. Post-rain light in Bali is actually extraordinary — some of the most dramatic shots I’ve ever taken were captured in the 20 minutes after a storm.
You’ve done the hard part — you’re married. Now let someone else do the work of making sure this chapter is documented as beautifully as it deserves.
