Tirtha Bridal wedding venue in Uluwatu, Bali

Why Choosing the Right Venue — Changes Everything.

Your venue isn’t just a location. It’s a character in your love story.

After 13 years and hundreds of weddings across this island, I can tell you that the same couple looks completely different at a Ubud jungle resort than they do on an Uluwatu cliff edge. The same vows sound different when they’re spoken over the rush of a waterfall versus the gentle crash of ocean waves against limestone. The same sunset casts a completely different light depending on which direction your ceremony platform faces — and yes, that matters more than you’d think.

Bali offers more wedding venue variety per square kilometer than almost anywhere else on Earth. Within a two-hour drive, you can move from a misty volcanic highlands ceremony to a white-sand beach reception to a rice-terrace dinner under a canopy of stars. The challenge isn’t finding a beautiful venue — it’s finding your beautiful venue.

That’s what this guide is for. I’ve organized it by experience type rather than just geography — because couples don’t choose venues on a map. They choose them based on a feeling. Let’s find yours.

And when you’ve found it, we’d love to help you capture every moment. Explore our complete Bali wedding photography guide for what to expect from your photographer on the day.

Venue Cost — A Quick 2026 Overview.

Before we dive into the venues, let’s set expectations. Bali wedding costs range dramatically — and the biggest surprise for most couples isn’t the venue fee itself, but the extras that stack on top of it.

Venue Tier Typical Total (50 guests) Best For
Waterfall / cliff elopement $1,800–$3,500 Just the two of you + officiant + photographer
Boutique villa $5,000–$12,000 Intimate celebrations, 20–50 guests
Mid-tier luxury resort $15,000–$40,000 Polished celebrations, 50–150 guests
Ultra-luxury resort / chapel $40,000–$120,000 Grand celebrations, 100–300 guests
Full estate / resort buyout $50,000–$200,000+ Multi-day celebrations, 200–500+ guests

Important — Every quoted price in Bali carries an additional 15–21% government tax and service charge on top. This is standard but rarely mentioned upfront. Always confirm whether your quote is “net” or “++” (plus tax and service). For a detailed breakdown of photography costs specifically, visit our Bali photography pricing page.

Best Intimate Venues — In Bali for Small Celebrations.

These venues are built for warmth, not scale.

If your guest list is 20–60 people and you want everyone to feel like family — not attendees at an event — these are where you belong.

01

Capella Ubud

Keliki, Ubud · 30–60 guests · Glamping-meets-gallery

Bill Bensley’s masterpiece — a luxury tented camp hidden in the Ubud jungle. Named the Best Hotel Brand by Travel + Leisure three consecutive years (2023–2025). Your ceremony happens on a candlelit wooden platform suspended above the rainforest floor, surrounded by one of the most photographically unique settings in Bali. This is where couples who want something genuinely nobody else has done get married.

📷 Soft dappled light through the canopy between 8–10 AM creates extraordinary portraits. Afternoon ceremonies work at 4 PM — the tent structures glow warmly at golden hour.

02

Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

Ubud · 20–120 guests · From ~$12,100 for 30 guests

Set along the Ayung River in a terraced valley, Mandapa combines the Ritz-Carlton’s impeccable standards with deeply Balinese spiritual atmosphere. The Three-Bedroom Pool Villa works beautifully for elopements and micro-weddings of up to 20 guests. For larger gatherings, the Temple Lawn — set against a 100-year-old Pengiyasan Temple — accommodates up to 120. Resort buyout required above 80 guests.

📷 The riverside ceremony spot works best in late morning to early afternoon — the diffused tropical light through the valley creates soft, even illumination that’s extremely flattering for portraits.

03

Four Seasons Sayan

Ubud · Up to 30 guests · From ~$13,600 for 30 guests

The iconic 30-meter teak suspension bridge that leads to the rooftop Lotus Pond is, in my professional opinion, the single most dramatic wedding entrance in Bali. You walk above the Ayung River gorge, across a jungle canopy, and arrive at a circular infinity pond surrounded by tropical garden. It’s intimate (30 guests max for the smallest setup), but the photos from this venue are consistently among the most breathtaking I’ve ever taken.

📷 The lotus pond creates perfect symmetrical reflections in the morning. The suspension bridge photographs best with backlighting — schedule the walk for 5 PM if possible.

04

The Kayon Jungle Resort

Bresela, Payangan · Up to 30 · From ~$3,142 (elopement)

An adults-only resort with a bamboo Puspaka Sky Chapel that appears to float above a tropical valley. The elopement package (starting from IDR 51,000,000) is exceptional value for what you receive — a forest-view ceremony, intimate celebration, and photos that look like they belong in a boutique travel magazine. Twenty-five minutes from central Ubud, but it feels like a different world entirely.

📷 Best light at 5 PM when the golden hour catches the bamboo chapel from the west. The valley mist returns around sunrise — extraordinarily cinematic for early-morning sessions.

05

Kaba Kaba Estate

Tabanan · Up to 150 seated (250 with marquee) · Min stay: 3–7 nights

Three acres of royal land surrounded by rice terraces with Mount Batukaru as the backdrop. The estate is filled with Balinese and Javanese antiques, making every corner photographically rich. Only 10 minutes from Canggu, but feels completely remote. Note: 11 PM music curfew, no fireworks or lantern release. Ideal for couples who want authentically Balinese atmosphere with genuine intimacy.

📷 The rice terraces catch extraordinary early-morning and golden-hour light. Drone coverage here is unrestricted and produces some of the most dramatic aerial wedding footage in Bali.

06

Anantara Uluwatu

Uluwatu · 12 guests at The Viewpoint · From ~$4,000++

For couples who want ultra-intimacy with a dramatic backdrop: the Viewpoint ceremony spot accommodates just 12 guests on a cliffside platform with 180-degree Indian Ocean views. The Dewa Dewi Chapel (cube-shaped glass-and-timber with 360-degree ocean views) expands to 50 guests. Time slots from 9 AM to 5 PM — the 5 PM slot is the most requested and books out 12+ months ahead.

📷 The Viewpoint faces west — the 5 PM slot produces the most emotionally charged light of any intimate venue in Uluwatu. Golden hour here is textbook.

Uluwatu cliff honeymoon wedding destination

Best Clifftop Venues — In Bali for Dramatic Ceremonies.

These are the venues that make people gasp.

Perched on limestone cliffs 50–100 meters above the Indian Ocean, Bali’s Uluwatu and Ungasan peninsula hosts some of the most photographically dramatic wedding venues in Bali on Earth.

07

Tirtha Uluwatu & The Glass House

Uluwatu · 40–350 · From $120++ per adult

Tirtha Uluwatu is where Bali’s destination wedding industry essentially began — and it remains the benchmark. The complex includes the Glass Chapel, Heaven, Earth, Glass Stage, Open Terrace, plus the expanded Villa Tirtha, The Glass House, and The Dining Pavilion. Every space faces the Indian Ocean. Every space photographs like a dream.

📷 The Glass Chapel walls catch the late-afternoon golden hour (4:30–6 PM) and create warm light spill across the couple at the altar. The Glass Stage and Open Terrace are best for sunset ceremonies — west-facing with an unobstructed horizon line.

08

Alila Villas Uluwatu

Uluwatu · Up to 120 · Full resort buyout available

The WOHA-designed cabana that literally hangs over a 150-meter cliff face. If your goal is a single iconic photograph — one frame that tells the entire story of your wedding — this cabana delivers it. The architecture is bold, geometric, and unmistakable. Full resort buyout is required for larger events, which means your entire wedding party has the property to themselves.

📷 The white stone and angular architecture acts as a natural reflector for golden-hour light. Ceremony timing of 4–5 PM produces the most balanced exposure between sky and structure. Drone coverage requires advance resort permission.

09

The Edge Bali

Uluwatu · Multiple tiers · Extravagant cliff-edge luxury

An award-winning villa complex clinging to the Uluwatu cliff with a famous infinity pool that appears to pour directly into the Indian Ocean. The ceremony platform, the reception lawn, the pool terrace — every space is designed for visual impact. Multiple packages from intimate to grand. This is the venue that makes people say “that can’t be real” when they see the photos.

📷 The infinity pool creates extraordinary reflection shots at blue hour (~5:50–6:10 PM). Position the couple at the pool edge with the ocean behind them and the sky turning indigo — that’s the money shot.

10

Wonderland Uluwatu

Uluwatu · 300 seated / 1,000 standing · Opened: Nov 2019

This is the venue that’s reshaping what a Bali wedding can be. Designed by Word of Mouth (the team behind W Seminyak), Wonderland is a purpose-built 10,000-square-meter clifftop event space with The Joglo (glass-roofed antique Javanese structure), The Point, and The Pool. Air-conditioned bridal suites. Among Bali’s most customizable and flexible venues.

📷 The Joglo’s glass roof creates beautiful dappled overhead light at any time of day. The Point is the hero ceremony location — west-facing cliff edge with clean horizon line. Golden hour here is textbook perfect.

11

Khayangan Estate

Pecatu, Bukit · Up to 250 · Min stay: 3 nights

The name means “Seventh Heaven” and the setting lives up to it — 140 meters of cliff-top oceanfront, ten restored antique Javanese teakwood houses, and a private white-sand beach accessible by funicular below. The estate accommodates up to 12 overnight guests across 6 bedrooms, with events for up to 250. Music permitted until 11 PM. No fireworks — LED lanterns are allowed.

📷 The cliff lawn faces west with 180-degree ocean views — the 5 PM ceremony slot is the most photographically valuable. The teakwood interiors photograph beautifully in the softer getting-ready light of morning.

12

Pandawa Cliff Estate

Bukit Peninsula · 250–400 · Architect: Popo Danes

Four interconnected villas (The Pala, Villa Rose, Villa Marie, Villa Markisa), 21 bedrooms, 6 pools, and a stone amphitheatre built into the cliff face. The amphitheatre — with tiered seating descending toward the ocean — is one of the most architecturally impressive ceremony spaces in Bali. Designed by Popo Danes, one of Indonesia’s most celebrated architects.

📷 10 PM sound curfew. The amphitheatre faces south-southwest — 5 PM ceremonies catch warm side-light rather than direct sunset, which actually produces more dimensionally interesting portraits.

13

Bvlgari Resort Bali

Uluwatu · 12–300+ · From ~$24,700 for 30 guests

Three distinct ceremony experiences: The Water Wedding (transparent altar floating over the infinity pool — among the most photographed wedding moments in Bali), the Bvlgari Chapel (the world’s first Bvlgari wedding chapel, seating 90), and La Terrazza (for ultra-intimate 12-person ceremonies with a 30-guest dinner). The Bvlgari Mansion offers the grandest option — 4,415 square meters.

📷 The Water Wedding creates a “walking on water” effect when the transparent altar catches the afternoon reflection at 4 PM. The chapel’s clean white-and-timber interior works beautifully in controlled light at any time of day.

14

Umana Bali, LXR Hotels

Ungasan · Multiple spaces · Opened: Dec 2023

Hilton’s first LXR property in Southeast Asia, and one of the most architecturally striking new venues in Bali. Seventy-two cliff villas perched 70 meters above the Indian Ocean, designed by WATG/Wimberly. The wedding chapel features a remarkable “white doves’ wings” feather-façade that catches light in ways I’ve never seen at any other Bali venue. Direct access to Melasti Beach below.

📷 The feather-façade of the chapel catches and diffuses afternoon light beautifully — 3:30–5 PM is the sweet spot. The cliff-villa infinity pools at sunrise create extraordinary first-look footage with the ocean as backdrop.

Best Waterfall Venues — In Bali for Elopements.

This is the category that’s grown fastest since 2023.

A waterfall elopement in Bali costs a fraction of a resort wedding, photographs with extraordinary cinematic drama, and creates a story that’s genuinely one-of-a-kind.

15

Tibumana Waterfall

Gianyar, 15 km east of Ubud · Elopement (2–10) · From ~$1,800

This is the waterfall that put Bali elopements on the global map — Amora Bali Weddings won the prestigious Junebug 2024 Choice Awards “Favourite Elopement” for work photographed here. A 200-step descent through jungle leads to a secluded cascade surrounded by emerald rock walls. The setting is raw, real, and profoundly intimate. No exclusivity (it’s public land), so time your ceremony for 7–8 AM.

📷 Morning light (8–10 AM) enters the jungle canopy and creates golden shafts across the mist. The water spray requires weather-sealed equipment, but the payoff is some of the most dramatic natural-light ceremony images you’ll find anywhere.

16

Nungnung Waterfall

Pelaga Village, Badung · Elopement (2–10) · ~500 steps access

A 75-meter cascade hidden 34 km from Ubud — taller and more powerful than Tibumana. Nungnung has recently been formalized for destination ceremonies through the local desa (village council), making it one of the newest legitimate waterfall wedding locations in Bali. The descent is significant (roughly 500 steps), so this is genuinely for adventurous couples. The reward? A cathedral of water and rock.

📷 The canyon orientation means morning light enters from the east — schedule ceremonies for 8–10 AM for the best light shaft effects. Afternoon light is flat and less dramatic here.

Best Luxury Venues — In Bali for Grand Celebrations.

For guest lists of 100 to 500+.

Including multi-day Indian weddings, black-tie gala receptions, and celebrations that require ballroom-level infrastructure — these are the only venues in Bali with the operational capacity to deliver at scale.

17

AYANA Resort & Spa Bali

Jimbaran · 50–1,000 across 18 spaces · Signature: Tresna Chapel, SKY

AYANA is essentially a wedding village. Ninety hectares with 18 different ceremony and reception options — from the glass-walled Tresna Chapel (80 seated, with a flowing stone river beneath the glass aisle) to SKY (a cantilevered deck 35 meters above the ocean), to Kisik Pier (Bali’s only private wedding pier), to Champa Garden (a canopy of 2,000 white frangipani trees). Rock Bar serves as the after-party destination.

📷 Tresna Chapel is indoor with controlled lighting — works at any hour. SKY at sunset (5:30–6:30 PM) is the single most dramatic photograph AYANA offers. The pier photographs spectacularly with drone coverage at golden hour.

18

The Mulia Bali

Nusa Dua · Up to 1,400+ (Unity Garden) · From ~$13,200 for 30 guests

Three wedding chapels (Eternity — a floating glass lakeside chapel with crystal chandelier; Harmony — oceanfront; Unity — lakeside garden), a 1,500-guest Grand Ballroom, a 1,400-guest Violet Ballroom, and a 2,000-square-meter Unity Garden. If you’re planning a large Indian wedding or a celebration that simply cannot compromise on scale and luxury, The Mulia is the answer.

📷 The Eternity Chapel’s reflective lake creates stunning mirror-image portraits at 4 PM. The Grand Ballroom’s crystal lighting is extraordinary for indoor reception photography — no supplemental lighting needed.

19

The Apurva Kempinski Bali

Nusa Dua · Up to 1,000 (Ocean Front Lawn) · From ~$21,500 for 30 guests

The Ocean-Front Apurva Chapel — inspired by Sulawesi traditional architecture, combining bamboo and glass — seats up to 140 guests for ceremonies. The Candi Ballroom (pillarless, 1,076 square meters) handles up to 1,000 for receptions. The grand Indonesian-inspired staircase at the resort entrance has become one of the most photographed wedding locations in all of Southeast Asia.

📷 The chapel faces west — 4 PM ceremonies produce stunning ocean-backlit portraits through the glass walls. The grand staircase photographs best with the couple descending from above — drone coverage of this shot is spectacular.

20

The St. Regis Bali Resort

Nusa Dua · 30–250 · From ~$11,700 for 30 guests

The Cloud Nine Chapel — small (43.6 square meters), exquisitely designed with Swarovski crystal chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling ocean views — is one of the most beautiful chapels in Bali. Limited to 30 guests in theater style. The Cloud Nine Terrace expands to 250 for receptions, with beachfront ceremony options on Nusa Dua’s immaculate sand.

📷 The 4:30–5:30 PM sunset slot at Cloud Nine books out 12+ months in advance — and it’s the most photographically valuable slot in the resort. The Swarovski chandeliers create prismatic light patterns that are extraordinary when caught at the right angle.

21

The Ritz-Carlton Bali

Sawangan, Nusa Dua · Up to 400–700 · Majestic Chapel: Up to 70

The Majestic Chapel rises from a reflective pool with floor-to-ceiling glass and creates the sensation of being on a ship about to set sail. It seats 70 for ceremonies and transforms into a 40-guest candlelit reception venue. The Cliff Lawn, perched above Sawangan Beach, handles receptions of up to 400 (with the resort citing up to 700 for the largest celebrations).

📷 The Majestic Chapel’s reflective pool creates extraordinary symmetrical portraits at golden hour. The Cliff Lawn faces west — dramatic sunset ceremony backdrop.

The Bali wedding setup at Paradisus Hotel

Best Beachfront Venues — In Bali.

Toes in the sand, salt in the air, sunset directly ahead.

If that’s your vision, these are your options.

22

Samabe Bali Suites & Villas

Nusa Dua cliff line · Multiple packages · Signature: Beach Cave

Samabe’s Beach Cave — a natural limestone formation on the shore — is one of the most geologically unique ceremony spots in Bali. White sand, turquoise water, and a dramatic stone arch framing the couple. For something more traditional, the Twin Island wedding venue offers ocean-and-cliff combinations.

📷 The Beach Cave photographs best in morning light (8–10 AM) when the sun enters from the east and illuminates the limestone interior. Afternoon creates harsh shadows within the cave.

23

Conrad Bali

Tanjung Benoa · Up to 300 · Signature: Infinity Chapel

The Infinity Chapel features an ocean-facing aisle over reflective pools with a floating altar — creating the visual effect of walking on water toward the ocean. Combined with the Wiwaha Chapel and extensive beach lawn, Conrad delivers reliable beachfront luxury with solid rain-backup options (a critical consideration most beach venues lack).

📷 The reflective pools in the Infinity Chapel create symmetrical double-exposure effects at any time of day. The floating altar photographs best from low angles with a wide lens.

24

W Bali Seminyak

Seminyak · Chapel + lawn · High-energy, contemporary

If your wedding personality is more fashion-week than fairytale, W Bali is your match. The beachfront chapel and lawn setup combines Seminyak’s ocean views with the W brand’s signature bold, contemporary design. The after-party transitions seamlessly into the resort’s bar and lounge scene — no awkward venue change, no 10 PM curfew anxiety.

📷 The contemporary architecture with clean geometric lines photographs like an editorial set. Best at golden hour (5–6 PM) when the warm light softens the modern lines.

25

Soori Bali

Tabanan · Intimate · Architectural editorial

For design-conscious couples, Soori is a revelation. SCDA architecture set against Tabanan’s raw volcanic black-sand beach. The editorial minimalism creates photographs that look like they were art-directed by a museum curator. Not for couples who want traditional — absolutely for couples who want striking.

📷 The black sand creates extraordinary contrast against white/cream wedding attire. Morning light (6–8 AM) with mist over the volcanic beach is genuinely world-class.

Intimate wedding in Ubud

Best Jungle and Garden Venues — In Bali.

26

Hanging Gardens of Bali

Payangan, Ubud · Intimate · Signature: Dual-tier infinity pool above Ayung gorge

The two-tiered infinity pool — designed by Gordon Shaw — has been photographed more than almost any other hotel pool on Earth. The jungle drops away beneath you, the river winds through the gorge below, and the entire setting creates a sensation of floating in the forest canopy. The ceremony experience is intimate and wildly photogenic. It’s as beautiful in person as every photograph you’ve ever seen of it — possibly more so.

📷 The infinity pools face north — morning and late-afternoon light are both exceptional. Avoid midday when the pool surface creates harsh reflections. Drone coverage here is spectacular but requires advance coordination.

27

Kamandalu Ubud

Ubud · Various capacities · Ancient Balinese, rice-field setting

Kamandalu is designed around the ancient Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana — harmony with God, people, and nature. Thatched pavilions, bamboo bridges, and lush rice terraces create one of the most authentically Balinese ceremony settings available. The resort coordinates everything from flower arrangements to legal documentation. See our Kamandalu Ubud wedding film for a visual reference.

📷 The bamboo bridges and pavilion interiors create extraordinary warm-toned couple portraits. Rice terrace light is best before 9 AM and after 4 PM.

Hidden Wedding Venue Costs — Every Couple Must Budget For.

This is the section most venue guides skip.

And it’s the section that saves you from a budget shock three months before your wedding.

Government Tax + Service Charge

15–21% added on top of every quoted line item. A “$10,000 venue fee” becomes $11,500–$12,100 after tax.

Banjar Fee ($200–$500)

A mandatory community contribution to the local village council for private villa events. Non-negotiable and deeply rooted in Balinese culture.

Function Fee

Typically equivalent to one extra night’s villa rate, charged for the event itself.

Generator Hire (IDR 800K–1.5M)

Required for clifftop and garden venues without mains power backup. Essential for lighting and sound.

Corkage Fee (~IDR 150K/person)

Charged if you supply your own alcohol instead of using the venue’s bar.

Outside Vendor Entrance Fee

Many five-star resorts charge external vendors (photographer, florist, DJ) a per-head or per-company entry fee. Ask upfront.

Pawang Hujan ($50–$150)

A traditional Balinese rain shaman. About 80% of outdoor weddings in Bali use one.

Sound Curfew

Most venues enforce a 10–11 PM music cutoff. Confirm before signing.

For a complete breakdown of Bali wedding photography costs specifically, see our 2026 wedding photography packages.

Couple in Alila Ubud infinity pool

How to Choose — The Right Bali Wedding Venue.

Step 1

Start with Your Guest Count

This eliminates more venues instantly than any other factor. Under 30 guests? You need an intimate villa or elopement location. Over 200? You need a full-service resort with ballroom infrastructure. The venues that can genuinely handle 300+ guests in Bali are limited to AYANA, The Mulia, Apurva Kempinski, Ritz-Carlton, Grand Hyatt, Sofitel, and InterContinental.

Step 2

Choose Your Landscape

Cliff, beach, jungle, rice terrace, volcano, or waterfall? This is an emotional decision, not a logistical one. Think about the photos you want to look at for the next fifty years. What’s behind you? What’s the light doing? What does the air feel like? Choose the landscape that matches the feeling of your relationship.

Step 3

Confirm Your Budget — Including Hidden Costs

Take the venue’s quoted price, add 15–21% tax and service, add the Banjar fee, add the function fee if applicable, add generator hire if outdoor, and add any vendor entrance fees. That’s your real number.

Step 4

Visit (or Video-Call) During Your Ceremony Time

A venue at 10 AM looks nothing like the same venue at 5 PM. Light direction, crowd density, ambient noise, and atmospheric mood all change dramatically throughout the day. If you can’t visit in person, ask for a 360-degree video recorded at your proposed ceremony time.

Step 5

Ask About Sound Curfew and Rain Backup

These are the two logistics issues that derail more Bali weddings than any other. Most venues enforce a 10–11 PM music cutoff. And most outdoor venues have limited rain contingency. Ask specifically: “What happens if it rains during my ceremony?” and “What is your music cutoff time?” before you sign.

Step 6

Talk to Your Photographer Before Finalizing

This might sound self-serving, but it’s genuine advice: your photographer knows things about venues that the venue’s sales team won’t tell you. We know which direction the ceremony platform faces. We know which venues restrict drone coverage. We know where the beautiful light falls at 5 PM and where the harsh shadow ruins the first kiss. Talk to us before you commit.

Ready to discuss your venue and photography together? Reach out through our contact page — we’re happy to share venue-specific photography advice before you book.

wedding at ayana bali

Best Time of Year — To Get Married in Bali.

The short answer: April–May or September–October. Dry season, fewer tourists, lower pricing than peak summer, and reliably clear skies for outdoor ceremonies.

The months to approach carefully: July–August (premium pricing, everything books out), December–January (peak wet season, afternoon storms likely), and the week around Nyepi (Bali’s Silence Day — the entire island shuts down, including the airport. In 2026, Nyepi falls on March 29).

For detailed seasonal guidance, see our Bali wedding photography guide which includes per-venue golden hour timing tables.

Frequently Asked Questions — About Bali Wedding Venues.

Question

How much does a wedding venue cost in Bali in 2026?

Costs range from approximately $1,800 for a waterfall elopement to $50,000+ for a luxury resort buyout. A mid-range resort wedding for 50 guests typically runs $15,000–$40,000 total. All prices should be confirmed with the 15–21% government tax and service charge, Banjar fee, and any function or generator fees included.

Question

How far in advance should I book a Bali wedding venue?

12–18 months ahead for dry season weekends (May–September). Popular venues like Tirtha Uluwatu, Alila Villas Uluwatu, and the St. Regis Cloud Nine Chapel at sunset book out over a year in advance. Weekday ceremonies (Tuesday–Thursday) are easier to secure and typically 10–30% cheaper.

Question

Can foreigners legally get married in Bali?

Yes, but both partners must share one of Indonesia’s six officially recognized religions, obtain a Certificate of No Impediment (CNI) from their embassy, and complete both religious and civil ceremonies on the same day. About 90% of foreign couples opt for a symbolic blessing in Bali and handle legal paperwork at home.

Question

What is a Banjar fee and do all venues charge it?

The Banjar fee ($200–$500) is a mandatory community contribution to the local village council. It applies to all private villa events and some resort events. Most five-star resorts absorb this into their pricing; private villas typically pass it through as a separate line item.

Question

What is the best month for an outdoor wedding in Bali?

May, June, September, and October offer the best combination of dry weather, moderate crowds, and reasonable pricing. July–August is peak season with premium rates. Avoid planning around Nyepi (March 29, 2026) — the entire island and airport close for 24 hours.

Question

Which venues can accommodate 200+ guests?

AYANA Resort (18 venues, up to 1,000), The Mulia (up to 1,400+), Apurva Kempinski (up to 1,000), Ritz-Carlton Bali (up to 400–700), Grand Hyatt Bali (up to 1,140), Pandawa Cliff Estate (up to 400), Khayangan Estate (up to 250), and InterContinental Bali (up to 1,500).

Question

Are there any new wedding venues in Bali for 2025–2026?

Yes — Umana Bali (LXR Hotels & Resorts), Hilton’s first LXR in Southeast Asia; Wonderland Uluwatu, a purpose-built 10,000 sqm clifftop event space; Glamp Nusa, a tented event venue; and Nungnung Waterfall, newly formalized for destination elopement ceremonies.

Question

Do I need a wedding planner for a Bali wedding?

For resort weddings with built-in coordination teams — not necessarily. For villa weddings, private estate events, or any celebration with 100+ guests — absolutely yes. A local Bali wedding planner navigates vendor relationships, permits, Banjar coordination, and day-of logistics that would be nearly impossible to manage from overseas.

Question

What are the sound curfew rules?

Most private villas and estates enforce a 10–11 PM music curfew. Five-star resorts with ballrooms can typically extend to midnight. The Stones Villa in Canggu has a 2 AM curfew. Full resort buyouts offer more flexibility. Always confirm in writing before signing.

Question

Which venues are best for photography?

From a photographer’s perspective: Alila Villas Uluwatu (cliff-edge cabana), Four Seasons Sayan (lotus pond symmetry), AYANA SKY (cantilevered 35 m above ocean), Bvlgari Water Wedding (transparent altar), Tirtha Glass Chapel (glass walls catching golden hour), and Tibumana Waterfall (jungle light, mist, raw drama). For comprehensive guidance, explore our complete Bali wedding photography guide.
